Halkidiki: 5-year-old girl attacked by wolf on Sithonia beach

A five-year-old girl from Serbia was attacked by a wolf on the beach of Agios Nikolaos in Sithonia, Halkidiki.

According to her mother’s complaint, the incident occurred on the morning of last Friday, September 12, when the child was playing on the beach. Then, according to the complaint, the wolf appeared and attacked the five-year-old, biting and scratching her back.

As the child’s mother informed the authorities, thanks to the immediate intervention of herself and a man who attacked the wild animal with stones, it was driven away and the child was saved.

The girl was initially taken to the local hospital, while she was then taken as a precaution to the Polygyros Hospital, where she received first aid, without risking her health.

The presence of wolves and jackals in the area was confirmed by Jason Bandios, the spokesperson for the Environmental Organization for Wildlife and Nature “Kallisto”, speaking to APE-MPE. “There is a presence of wolves and jackals in the area. We are aware of the fact and, in collaboration with the Polygyros Forestry Office, cameras have already been installed at the site in order to record the animal’s behavior,” Mr. Bandios told APE-MPE, highlighting the need to inform residents, through the “Kallisto” website, about how they can protect themselves, but also to ensure that wild animals remain outside residential areas.
